Senior Rails Software Engineer
As a frontend engineer you have the chance to shape major parts of our frontend architecture and implementation. We base our development on the Ruby on Rails framework and combine a mix of agile practices, pair programming and code reviews to improve the process of working in a team. We are big fans of testing, employing Cucumber for testing the client side while having a continuous build system to alert us when tests are failing. As a small team, we believe we have constructed an environment that allows us to continue to adapt and develop cutting edge features. Join our highly motivated, open-minded team!
Your responsibility is end-to-end, from planning, implementation, testing to maintaining your code after deployment. You are part of a team of product managers, user experience experts, designers and engineers. New features are implemented and deployed in short iterations and your contributions and ideas are very appreciated.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Completely immersed in agile product development and engineering efforts, working closely with product managers, interaction designers, visual designers, software engineers and architects
- Design and implement new features, maintain existing code and fix bugs
- Quality assurance (automated testing and monitoring)
- Collective code ownership
- Assist product managers in writing user stories
- Transform mockups/designs into cross browser HTML/CSS/JavaScript
- Deliver on time
- Help improving site usability with A/B tests and data analysis
- Improve engineering tool chain
- Help building backend services
Desired Skills & Experience
- Passion for the web and aware of new web trends
- Ideally 5+ years work experience as a software engineer
- Significant Ruby/Rails experience
- Good knowledge of Javascript, HTML and CSS
- Experience with at least one other programming language such as Java, Python, PHP or C++
- Understand cross-browser development, testing and bug fixing
- Passionate about test driven development
- Comfortable working in a Unix environment
- BS/MS in Information Systems, Business Informatics or a similar field is a plus
- Capability to work rapidly and efficiently in an unstructured environment
- Self-reliant, capable of working independently
- Fluent in English. German/French is an advantage
